Bags of Hope 2009
Approximately 1,300 school bags and supplies were distributed to
students in need in Lake Providence on August 1.
Additionally 400 bags and supplies went to Tensas Parish.
This marked the 7th year that Fellowship churches from around the
state
have joined in partnership with local leadership to provide supplies
to get students off to a good start.

There was tremendous local support through the efforts of Sister Bernie Barret
and the planning committee who were able to raise over $5,000 for this effort
through the generous gifts from local churches,
businesses and individuals.

This year's drive was well organized and participants were processed quickly
with short wait times. Representatives from every school in the parish
were present with up-to-date student lists to give
accountability to the distribution.

As improving education is a core issue in overcoming poverty,
the Louisiana Fellowship's Together for Hope program is thrilled
to be a part of this effort and applauds the commitments of school staff,
parents and students
and the gains they are making.
We particularly want to recognize the improvements in scores at Griffin Middle Academy.

Thannks to all churches, businesses, individuals and volunteer leaders who were a part of this success.

Bridgewater in Madisonville, St. Charles Ave. and Sojourn Lakeview in New Orleans,
